Minnesota – A repeat customer of REIC Specialty requested climate control equipment for several stages of construction on a new building in Minnesota. The contractor approached REIC well before the project broke ground and had outlined the stages that would require climate control. REIC had provided heating the previous year during the brick and concrete phases, cooling and dehumidification during the summer, and was now asked to return for another winter to provide heating for the final stages.
Specific Heating Needs – Having already worked on this building, the layout was familiar, but requirements now changed. The contractor needed temperatures held at a minimum of 50° but other areas of the building required dedicated heating to prevent any damaging effects, especially a mechanical room where equipment had been installed. With no permanent HVAC system operating yet, the conditions in that area were critical. Additionally, various finishing work was underway and the contractors had a schedule to meet.
Targeted Heating -With walls and other interior areas already constructed, simply installing heaters and “dumping” heating into the building was not an option. Smaller heaters that targeted designated area of the building was the approach, including the mechanical room, which required a heater to sit atop scaffolding where it can enter the space without a long duct run or excess insulated ducting.
Mechanical Contractors to Help – REIC worked closely with a mechanical contractor throughout this phase to both determine the best placement for the heaters and to help construct temporary ducting for heating to enter the building. The mechanical contractors helped construct the ducting for the four (4) separate heaters used to deliver the conditions needed inside the building, also assisting in developing branches for the ducting to enter multiple areas inside the building.
Heating All Winter and No Delays – All four heaters operated on natural gas during this final phase. The units were delivered in October and ran throughout the winter, until April of the following spring when the project was completed and handed over to the building owner. The heating held the conditions needed and no delays were experienced due to the cold Minnesota winter.
