Minnesota – With the winter approaching, a longtime customer of REIC Specialty reached out for help during the interior work of a new construction project. The four-story hotel under construction had exterior framing complete and the building was moving to interior work, including drywall. With winter temperatures in the Mankato, MN area consistently below zero degrees in the winter, controlling the interior temperatures was essential and temporary heating was needed.
Heating Needs – When first discussing the project requirements, the construction contractor specified that all heating was to remain outside the building. Additionally, the four-story structure was to remain above 50 degrees to protect worker safety, materials and aid in installation. The project was sized and heating was chosen to meet all the needs. Ultimately, seven makeup air heaters were selected to meet the needs, with four additional indirect fired heaters for other areas outside the construction building.
Natural Gas Heaters on Site – The heaters were delivered in November, with local utilities helping greatly by having a meter for natural gas already installed on the property. All the units were connected locally with NG through the local meter and the units were soon powered up, filling the space with heating and holding conditions inside, as well as maintaining a safe and productive workspace for the contractors inside who were conducting interior finishing work and installing drywall. Delivering Heating Where Needed – In order to deliver the heat to each floor, the flexible duct on many heaters was attached to an extended flange from the heater outlet, directing the highest volume of warm air as possible. Each unit delivered warm air to a different area of the building, maintaining the 50-55 temperatures required by the contractor.
From Fall Through Spring – Following the initial call in the fall, the project was sized, quoted and evaluated, with heating arriving as interior work was beginning. the contractor was able to work through winter, with the heaters remaining on site until spring weather arrived.
