With summer officially arriving, the temperature continues to rise. With the heat outside, it can be very challenging for your employees to stay productive. Whether your workplace is indoors or outdoors, hot weather can be unbearable. That’s why it’s so important to ensure you’re doing everything you can to keep your employees cool this summer. Here are some tips for cooling down your worksite.
Keep Them Hydrated
This simple task can do wonders for your employees. Stock up on water bottles and hand them out to your employees multiple times a day. Dehydration can cause their bodies to overheat, leading to heat stroke, one of three heat-related syndromes, with heat cramps being the mildest and heat exhaustion sitting in the middle. If you notice that an employee is red, has dry skin, a strong pulse, and is dizzy, make sure they’re hydrating immediately. Plain water may become boring for many people, so offer flavored options in your office to add some variety.
Provide Ample Breaks and Shade
Depending on the job site environment, especially if outdoors, allowing workers to rest and escape direct sunlight is critical for worker safety. Whether the shade is from an indoor area or merely under the cover of trees, a break from direct sun can be critical. If possible, acquire a temporary covering, such as a pop-up tent or awning that can also be used on other jobsites or for company events. During these breaks is also a great time to supply cool drinks and hydration.
Offer Cooling Treats One Day a Week
At the end of a long week – or perhaps in the middle of the week – offer frozen treats, endurance drinks or other cool refreshments that are a bit different from the norm. This will be a surprise to employees and help brighten their mood and show that the company cares about their morale and well-being.
Use Portable Air Conditioner and Cooling Rentals
Portable air conditioner rentals can be extremely useful in the workplace, especially if the workplace is constantly moving. These units administer a lot of cold air to a specific location. You can pick up several rental air conditioners for a warehouse, for example, so you don’t have to rely on everyone crowding around one unit.
